EHNA Assessments Go Live At HHHO

HHHO are proud to support cancer patients, their families and also those who support them on the frontline within the NHS. Whilst we are a small team we strive to work inline with infrastructures and tools made available and accessible to us, despite us not being a part of the NHS.

A few months ago we looked into undertaking the Macmillan Electronic Health Needs Assessment and we are pleased to announce this went live last week within HHHO.

So what is a EHNA?

A Macmillan eHNA (electronic Holistic Needs Assessment) is a web-based tool developed by Macmillan Cancer Support to help healthcare professionals identify and address the unique needs of people living with cancer. It’s part of Macmillan’s Recovery Package, which aims to empower individuals to take an active role in their care by providing information and support.

Here’s a more detailed explanation:

  • What it does:

The eHNA helps healthcare professionals:

  • Identify a patient’s concerns and needs.
  • Initiate conversations about those needs.
  • Develop personalized care and support plans.
  • Share relevant information and resources.
  • Refer patients to local support services.
  • How it works:
    • Patients can use a digital device (smartphone, tablet, or computer with a web browser) to complete the assessment.
    • The eHNA allows for a structured discussion between the patient and healthcare professional.
    • The completed assessment and care plan can be saved and printed.
  • Benefits:
    • It can help improve communication between healthcare providers and patients.
    • It allows for a more focused and effective consultation.
    • It can help ensure patients receive the right information and support at the right time.

Why are we doing this?

Despite our own registration process, which will continue, the EHNA is an optional tool that enables us to get a greater insight to a patients needs. From using the online tool, whilst names etc are not shared, the system enables us to create a specific and recognised care plan showing signposting for HHHO Services and other external services.

We are thrilled to be implementing this but like all things, review how it goes and more importantly will measure the direct benefit to HHHO and its service users.
