Director Of Public Health & Cabinet Member for Health & Social Care Visit HHHO

Following my visit to the Council House in Birmingham in February to meet Cllr Mariam Khan, Cabinet member for Health & Social Care, we had been assured that once Sally Burns, the new Director of Public Health In Birmingham had settled into her role, they would jointly visit our cancer centre.

They were sure to keep their promise and Georgie was able to welcome them to them centre and give them a guided tour of the centre and showcase all the services we offer supporting adults and children affected by cancer.

They were taken back, not only at our service offering, but also as Georgie shared an impact report, by the number of people being referred to HHHO from across both Primary care, NHS and other (and sometimes much larger) charities.

For Georgie, though it was a chance to showcase how Help Harry Help Others and it’s Drop In Cancer Support Centre has not just proved it is needed across Birmingham, but with already seeing  by August the same amount of new people reaching out for support that we did in the whole of 2024. The stats highlighted how The Drop In Cancer Support Centre is now a lifeline for so many people with over 150 people each week accessing our support.

It was also an opportunity for Georgie to say how we need support and backing now from the local govenment and from Public Health. HHHO support well being in the community and are a prevent a further burden to the NHS.

Both agreed that we did need support and assured Georgie that they would go away, have a meeting to discuss HHHO and how they could help, something Georgie will follow up on to ensure the charity receives the support it needs.

Cllr Mariam Khan and cabinet Member for Health & Social Care Said “It’s absolutely incredible to see what the Help Harry Help Others charity has achieved in the years they have existed here in Birmingham and I am just absolutely surprised that we havnt been able to support them as much as we should. I have had a visit here today with the Director of Public Health, Sally Burns and I am just really keen to see how much more we can support Georgie in supporting families across Birmingham who have been dealing with some of the issues around cancer and all of the wrap around care and support that HHHO charity delivers in the name and honour of Harry Moseley. I am just so pleased we have been able to be here today and listen to all the different aspects and stories that touch the lives of people in Birmingham. Thank you so much for inviting me”
