On Friday 21st February Georgie took on her latest and last challenge for what would be Harrys 25th Birthday.
At 10am a few of the service users cheered her on as she departed for #Challenge25 ‘Walk A Mile In Their Shoes’. With the idea being Georgie would complete 25 trips to and from Heartlands Hospital to the Drop In Cancer Support Centre all within 25 hours.  In total the challenge would stretch over 75 miles (3 marathons).
Throughout the night she had the wonderful support from SNSG security who sponsored the event by providing two security personnel to keep Georgie safe as she walked up and down the streets to and from the hospital.
As well as to honur Harry on his 25th Birthday, Georgies aim was to raise awareness for the average number of times a cancer patient visits hospital in the first year of diagnsosis – with that number also being ’25’. This highlights the impact on peoples routines and lifestyles with many people actually visiting a whole lot more!.
Despite being in lots of pain by lap 20 at 6am on Harry’s Birthday (22nd Feb) and 20 hours in, with five remaining, Georgie was determined to keep going despite a trapped nerve and a feet full of blisters.
Lots of people supported Georgie throughout the 25 hours. From service users who drove by and honked the horn, and even walked a few laps to corporate supporters and more, it was a huge team effort and everyone spurred Georgie on to keep going.
As if that wasnt enough, Georgie decided to do the final stretch of the lap in ‘Haribo’, the HHHO mascot and even managed a little dance. Georgie had a very warm welcome from service users and supporters at the centre where a lovely spread from The Picnic Basket was served, and her chidren and grandchildren got to blow out the candles on Harry’s birthday cake made and donated by Stacey’s Cake Creations.
Georgie said ” I am unbelievablly grateful to everyone that has supported my latest whacky Challenge (and final challenge on Harry’s birthday I might add) for what should be Harry’s 25th Birthday celebrations. Without the love and support from everyone involved we could not have raised the almost £10,000 that we did. To everyone who walked with me, waved at me, supplied a service for the event or donated on our crowdfunding page, I am wholeheartedly thankful to you all. We are definately stronger together and look what we all achieved for those affected by cancer”.
